Light Aircrafts

The local airport to the west is only a small airfield appropriate for light aircrafts. The present runway is 1380 meters by 45 meters.

There are no standard scheduled or charter flights but these light aircrafts are popular for general aviation. It is in effect an aerodrome open to national and international (Schengen only) flights. There is no customs or passport clearance here so it is not able to receive airplanes from a non EC (European Community) member country or able to offer passport clearance for travelers from non Schengen signatory countries. The 15 Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden . All these countries except Norway and Iceland are European Union members.

It has about 20,000 passenger movements a year, mainly for private charters, pilot schools, military, crop spraying and organ transplants for the Riena Sophia Hospital in the city. The terminal building is open from 8:00am and closes at times to suit demand.
